A new Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) collaboration with CURE Media Group, a multimedia platform, is expected to raise awareness of prostate cancer and enhance the scope and availability of disease information.
Specifically, the PCF has joined CURE Media’s Strategic Alliance Partnership (SAP) program, which works to cultivate information-sharing among patient-support organizations, healthcare associations, academic centers, and medical institutions.
Focusing exclusively on cancer updates, investigations and education, CURE Media reaches more than 1 million patients, caregivers, and survivors. Founded in 2002, it features a website, video programs, live events such as conferences, and CURE magazine.
Over its 26 years, PCF has invested more than $765 million in promising research to improve the prevention, detection, and treatment of the disease, with the ultimate goal of a cure. Its portfolio includes 2,000 research programs at some 210 cancer and academic centers in 22 countries. In addition to regularly lobbying lawmakers for more research dollars, the foundation also works to raise disease awareness.
“PCF works hard to fund and accelerate research for prostate cancer while raising awareness in the community,” Michael J. Hennessy Jr., president of MJH Associates, CURE Media Group’s parent company, said in a press release. “We are proud to partner with them and work together to improve the lives of those diagnosed with prostate cancer.”
In addition to joining the SAP, the foundation will publish disease information on CURE’s popular advocacy and research hub. According to the PCF, 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. The cancer begins when cells in the prostate gland grow uncontrollably.
“We appreciate the opportunity to provide more people with best-in-class resources that can make a significant impact on the lives of prostate cancer patients, their families and caregivers,” said Christine Jones, PCF’s chief operating officer.
In 2015, CURE added PCF to its Advocacy Spotlight Partnership program, which collaborates to raise awareness about effective therapies and the importance of early detection. Visit this site for a roster of advocacy partners.
In related news, PCF recently received $150,000 as part of an inaugural effort from the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks launched during African-American History Month. The team’s initiative was aimed at bringing more awareness of the disorder to the African-American community.
