About Heart Disease

Heart disease is the leading cause of death amongst men and women in the United States accounting for 1 in every 4 deaths. Heart disease is a broad term that includes coronary heart disease, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and congenital heart disease. Several factors can contribute to the development of heart disease including age, family history, your lifestyle, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. Prevention of heart disease is key and can be achieved through eating a healthy diet, maintaining proper body weight, being physically active, avoiding tobacco products, and limiting alcohol. Early detection of heart disease is key. A yearly trip to your primary care provider for your annual physical greatly reduces the risk of developing heart disease.
