When most people hear the words “plastic surgery,” they think about liposuction, breast augmentation, facelifts, and nose surgery. In fact, these are some of the most common surgical enhancement procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
While these are all good corrective procedures for restoring youth and overall body image, there are a number of lesser known, adjunct plastic surgery procedures that can help you look naturally beautiful. When blended with the more popular forms of plastic surgery, these adjunct procedures can make you look as young as you feel. Here are a few you may not have heard of that might be right for you:
1. Earlobe rejuvenation.
The earlobes lose volume as we age, just like the face, causing them to appear thin and flat, or become lengthened, or droop. Earlobes that have lost volume can be rejuvenated with injections of autologous fat (fat from your own body) or an off the shelf biodegradable filler. I use hyaluronic acid fillers that can last for about a year or longer and patients love it! Their earrings fit and they look better overall! If thinning earlobes have led to elongated earlobes, I can repair these as well by filling them with the patient’s own fat which I harvest during a facial rejuvenation. This helps to achieve maximal facial harmony.2.
2. Lasers and peels on the face, neck, and upper chest wall areas.
Lasers and chemical peels target the fine or deep wrinkles that a facelift cannot remove, especially those wrinkles around your lips and eyes. Understandably, combining procedures will change the amount of needed recovery time. You can combine lasers and peels with a facelift for a more thorough correction of the central facial areas. If you are not doing a facelift, you can do a chemical peel of the entire face, neck, and upper chest wall areas, as well as the hands.
3. Upper lip shortening.
The upper lip thins and lengthens with age. This is correctable by making a small incision just below the nose to shorten and turn the lip slightly up. This simple procedure can have a great effect on making you look young again, as well as dramatically improving your smile!
4. Chin implants or fat augmentation to a weak chin area.
While a facelift will reduce sagging skin and thereby reduce the appearance of a double chin, the procedure will not change the overall structure of the area. To achieve an improved effect in a patient with a small chin, a hard silicone-type chin implant is often added in conjunction with a facelift or a rhinoplasty. You may be a good candidate for a chin implant if you have a weak chin but a normally functioning jaw. If you don’t like having an implant on your chin, we can also improve your chin contour and shape directly with the use of your own fat injections into the chin areas. This is very natural and looks great long term as well.
5. Hand Rejuvenation.
Often, after a facelift the only telltale sign of aging is that of one’s hands with loss of fat and thin skin with blotches from aging. You can completely rejuvenate your hands using your own fat injected at the time of your facelift and peeling the sun damaged skin, as well, for a new hand and face look of youthfulness!
