When it comes to plastic surgery, there is a lot that can be done to change the appearance. There is also a lot that can be done, that shouldn’t. Celebrities spend a lot of time and money getting plastic surgery, then spend a lot more time and money denying that they had it. If they had gotten the right plastic surgery, no one would ask. Remember – just because you “can” doesn’t mean that you “should”. The overdone, “Kardashian” look is simply, over. The new normal is “less is more”.
Refined not Restructured
Certainly there are some things about your appearance that you don’t think are perfect. Plastic surgery can improve on the basic structure you have without changing the underlying foundation. Refinements of your facial features or liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits can resculpture and fine-tune those parts that don’t seem to “fit,” but plastic surgery shouldn’t make you look completely different, it should make you look like a better version of yourself.
Balance and proportion.
Plastic surgery can be done to enlarge or reduce any part of the body or face. Lip augmentation and breast augmentation are areas that are often overdone. Some patients come in with the belief they want much larger lips or breasts because of what they have seen on TV – or what someone has said. Some surgeons simply comply, but good plastic surgeons will provide counsel instead. Plastic surgery should enhance or restore what nature could have or should have provided – balance, shape and symmetry.
Enhanced not extreme
There is nothing wrong with wanting to look younger. Whether it is keeping lines from appearing or eliminating the small ones you have, rejuvenation procedures can enhance the way you look. Firming skin that is sagging, enhancing the lips, cheekbones or skin or resurfacing the skin can turn back the clock a few years but if you are 50, it won’t make you look 20. When people see you, they should ask about what you are doing to look so great, not what did you have done to yourself. Well-rested and healthy – not unrecognizable.
We have heard stories about celebrities whose careers have been ruined by plastic surgery. They had a procedure that “fixed” something they hated – only to find that they ended up looking just like everyone else – nothing special. Your career may not depend on the appearance of your face or your body but plastic surgery should be customized for you, not cookie cutter. Ideally, we like to say “plastic surgeons are in the facial protection business, not the witness protection business.”
