Are you considering a facial rejuvenation procedure? Perhaps a facelift? A facial filler? Or botox injections? Facial rejuvenation is any procedure (surgical or non-surgical) which helps to restore your face to its youthful appearance. These include surgical options, like a full face and necklift, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, brow lift, and/or the use of nonsurgical options, such as fillers and Botox injections. Many men and women alike choose to have any one of these procedures to reverse the signs of aging, but how do you choose what to do and when to do it?!
The question is: when is the best time of year?
Ultimately, the best time of year to have facial rejuvenation is when it works best for you, for your lifestyle, and your family or significant other as well. You need to feel comfortable and prepared for this procedure. If that means getting it now, great! If that means waiting several months or longer, that’s good, too. Obviously, if you have only a short time to recover, like a day or two, then non-surgical options like fillers, Botox, or a light chemical peel may be best. However, if you have one to two weeks, you may consider a surgical procedure such as rhinoplasty or even a facelift.
Still, the popularity of facial rejuvenation increases during the holidays.
It’s easy to see why. People want to look their best over the holiday season, when families gather for meals and friends ring in the New Year. While you may be one of the many men and women desiring facial rejuvenation this holiday season, it’s important to remember that these procedures take time to heal.
In general, a chemical peel of moderate depth with Trichloroacetic Acid has a recovery time of about seven to ten days. Similarly, optimal care for post-blepharoplasty — or eyelid surgery — is seven days while eating a diet high in protein and low in salt. On the other hand, after a facelift, it’s important to wait two or three weeks before being back in the public eye and resuming any post operative skincare, including medical grade skin care regimen such as sunscreen, pigment controllers, and retinoids. A rhinoplasty is usually only a week off before you can resume your normal activities
All of this is to say, while you may want to look like your younger self over Christmas dinner, if your holiday season is especially busy, consider whether this is the best time. You need at least two weeks, preferably three, after a rejuvenation before returning to your normal work and life routine. If you spend a lot of time in the public eye, and especially if you appear in front of the media, it’s best to wait four weeks. That’s why it is so important to plan now to get this done or wait until after the New Year, which is also a very popular time to have surgical rejuvenation!
And of course, it’s important to remember that good facial rejuvenation requires finding the right doctor who will not try to create a completely new face for you, but rather restore your original youthfulness. The goal is to make sure you have a natural youthful look, not a “windswept Hollywood look.” A great plastic surgeon with expertise in understanding how you age will help restore your youthful appearance. As a plastic surgeon, I am in the face protection not the witness protection program!”
As we age, we lose fat on our face and our skin sags. Filling and lifting your face helps restore your natural look and appearance. If you want to look natural and non-operated — which is a sign of good plastic surgery — the key is to find the right board certified plastic surgeon who is a true expert in the procedure you want. You need to ask the three important question — or the “three Es” — does your surgeon have the Experience, Expertise, and can he/she show consistent, exceptional results! And does he or she fully understand the science of how we age as individuals. This is so important to help restore your face to your normal youthful self.
