With the holidays finally here, many of us are anticipating dinners with families, end-of-year parties, much-needed vacations and more. While each of these holiday events offers joy and good cheer, we all know they can also bring stress and depression. And there’s one thing that’s sure to get you down during the holidays: not feeling good in your own skin.
What’s worse than going to a New Year’s Eve party feeling like you look less than your best? It’s a quick way to turn what should be a festive time into a drag!
Fortunately, there are a few nonsurgical ways you can look amazing this holiday season!
1.Good skin care routine.
If you have a good daily skin care routine, you’re already helping your skin look youthful and fresh this holiday season. But if you haven’t been taking care of your skin on a daily basis, now is the time to start! What better time to treat yourself to a set of quality skin care products than during the holidays? A basic skin care routine includes an oil-free moisturizer applied at least in the morning, if not several times during the day, an alcohol-free cleanser, and an oil-free night cream. It’s important to exfoliate your skin several times a week, as well, and if your skin is particularly dry, you might opt into an oil-free toner or a medical-grade retinol product for extra hydration.
2. Light chemical peel.
Men and women ready to take the next step with skin care might try out a light chemical peel to prepare for the holidays. During a chemical peel, a plastic surgeon or dermatologist applies a chemical solution to your skin that, when removed, pulls off the top layer of skin, revealing the younger skin underneath. Chemical peels are especially helpful in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. They can also help with sun damage. A moderate strength chemical peel enhances your skin turnover, erasing discoloration and redness. The optimal chemical peel for sun damage depends on the type of damage and the pigment in your skin. The recovery time for a chemical peel is between seven to ten days, so be sure to plan ahead with this one.
3. Facial filler.
A facial filler smooths the wrinkled skin around your eyes, cheeks, and lips, restoring the youthfulness to aging skin. Fillers are usually a mixture of collagen and hyaluronic acid that are injected beneath the skin by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Facial fillers are an excellent option for patients who are not quite in need of a true facelift. Whether you need a facelift, skin tightening, or a facial filler depends on the components of aging, facial fat loss, and skin sagging. If you have minimal to no jowls, fillers may be appropriate. If you have excessive skin sagging, however, a facelift may be a better choice. As with chemical peels, facial fillers take a week or more to heal, so prepare ahead!
4. Botox injections.
Botox injections are small amounts of deactivated and safe botulinum toxin injected by a board-certified plastic surgeon directly beneath the skin. The botulinum toxin stops signals in certain nerve cells, which weakens the muscles and prevents wrinkles in those areas. A botox injection may be just what you need to erase wrinkles along your forehead or around your eyes, especially because it only takes between a day or two to heal and reach its final results, which means it’s a great option for serious results during the busy holiday season.
